Abstract
This chapter describes the framework of the global climate system model known as FGOALS-s2. FGOALS-s2 consists of the following components: SAMIL2 (atmosphere), LICOM2 (ocean), CSIM5 (sea ice), and CLM3 (land). These components are coupled together with the flux coupler from NCAR. FGOALS-s2 has been used to conduct the experiments for analysis studies in support of the fifth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR5) and phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). Here, the 500-year preindustrial control run was adopted to briefly investigate the stability of FGOALS-s2.
