Cross-border health – the example of the Upper Rhine Valley In cross border area, cross-border health doesn’t have anything to do with health tourism but rather with an extension of a cross-border dynamics that already exists in all sectors of public life to health. In the light of the situation in the Upper Rhine Valley, often considered as a laboratory of European construction, this article will present the complexity of the implementation of crossborder health in the region. Starting with the realities of cross-border patients, it will then show the various legal instruments in use but as well the efforts to coordinate or to organize win-win cooperation between the different health systems. Despite a raising potential of awarded crossborder patients, the cooperation remains difficult; this article works out the different obstacles to operational cross-border cooperation.
