Zusammenfassung

Antibiotika haben eine Reihe von Therapiemodalitäten der modernen Medizin (z. B. zytoreduktive Chemotherapie von Tumoren, Organtransplantationen) erst möglich und viele andere sicherer gemacht. Ihr Einsatz hat sich in den letzten Jahren stark ausgeweitet, heute werden Antibiotika etwa bei jedem zweiten hospitalisierten Patienten eingesetzt.
