Abstract
In the introduction the importance of knowledge in general but especially in economics and therein in economic growth theory is motivated. The development of the perception of knowledge along the different paths of economic growth theory is illustrated in a rough layout and the link between knowledge and innovation and the national innovation system is established.Following a Russian proverb it is argued that the Russian Federation is not comparable to those countries economic theory usually focuses on – a first overview over specifics of Russia is given. Furthermore, the role knowledge plays in the Russian Federation – the Russian society is motivated. Arguing already which part of the Russian innovation system are analyzed in this study. To illustrate the concept of the study an overview of its different parts and the way they interact with each other is given to conclude the chapter.
