Abstract
Analytic solutions of Maxwell’s equations (2.4)–(2.7) are rather simple for plane harmonic waves, but are very complex for realistic configurations. As a simplification of the mathematics, we introduce new functions, the electrodynamic potentials Φ and \(\boldsymbol{A}\), which can be determined from given current and charge densities \(\boldsymbol{J}\) and ρ.
