Abstract

China and the United States (US) have much more in common than one might suspect. Both have been thrust into a globally intertwined, interdependent, highly competitive economic system, which has been precipitated by exponential growth in technological discoveries. In both countries their institutions of higher learning confront unprecedented pressures to meet the educational requirements of their countries’ workforces. Such demands require well thought out innovative change. This chapter briefly examines the dilemmas these countries face as they work to educate creative thinkers who are well grounded in mathematics and science.
