Abstract
The categorization of hand eczema is based upon morphological and etiological criteria, taking into consideration the intersection between exogenous and endogenous factors in the pathogenesis of the disease in each individual case.
There are some failures in this simplified classification, due to the overlap between categories, which is explained in detail. Other classifications have been proposed recently, such as considering the “hand eczema syndrome,” a well-defined entity in and of itself.
Special attention is paid to the hand eczema severity indexes.
Algorithms related to various clinical entities can help the dermatologist in the diagnostic procedure.
