Abstract

Deuteron consists of a proton and a neutron. It is essentially a loose structure as implied by its low binding energy at around 2 MeV, i.e. 1 MeV per particle, in contrast with a value of 8 MeV for the average binding energy per nucleon in medium and heavy nuclei. The binding energy of deuteron has been determined by various methods.
