Zusammenfassung

Gemäß Klassifikation der „Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature“ (SUN) Working Group handelt es sich bei der intermediären Uveitis um eine intraokulare Entzündung mit dem Glaskörper als primärem Entzündungsort. Als Pars planitis wird eine Untergruppe der intermediären Uveitis bezeichnet, bei der sich „Snowballs“ und „Snowbanks“ finden, jedoch keine zugrundeliegende Infektion oder Systemerkrankung nachweisbar , d. h. das Krankheitsbild „idiopathisch“ ist. Lässt sich hingegen eine Infektion oder Systemerkrankung (z. B. Multiple Sklerose) als Ursache nachweisen, soll der Begriff intermediäre Uveitis verwendet werden.

Ungefähr 20 % aller Uveitis-Patienten leiden an einer intermediären Uveitis. Bezogen auf die Lokalisation der Entzündung im Auge ist sie die zweithäufigste Uveitisform, sowohl im Erwachsenen- als auch im Kindesalter. Die Inzidenz der intermediären Uveitis wird mit 1,5/100.000, die Prävalenz mit 4,0/100.000 angegeben. Die intermediäre Uveitis betrifft überwiegend Patienten vom Kindesalter bis zum vierten Lebensjahrzehnt, wobei jedoch auch ältere Personen erkranken können. Eine Geschlechtspräferenz wird nicht beobachtet. In 70–90 % der Fälle sind beide Augen erkrankt, wobei häufig eine Asymmetrie im Schweregrad zwischen beiden Augen beobachtet wird.

Man geht davon aus, dass es sich bei der intermediären Uveitis um eine T-Zell-vermittelte Erkrankung handelt. Es wird hier auf ▶ Abschn. 5.1.2 zur Immunologie intraokularer Entzündungen verwiesen.
