Zusammenfassung

Allen Bemü hungen um Klimaschutz zum Trotz werden Erdöl, Erdgas und Kohle noch für einige Zeit die wichtigsten Energieträger bleiben (siehe auch ► Kasten 6.1). In fossilen Energieträgern ist die Energie gespeichert, die Lebewesen vergangener Zeiten durch Fotosynthese aus dem Sonnenlicht gewonnen haben. Es geht somit um die Biomasse, die sie aufgebaut haben und die später zu anderen Verbindungen umgewandelt wurde.
