Zusammenfassung

Mit fortschreitendem Tumorwachstum treten bei der Mehrzahl der Patienten starke, behandlungsbedürftige Schmerzen auf. Schmerzen sind eines der häufigsten Symptome bei Tumorpatienten. In einer Übersicht aus verschiedenen epidemiologischen Studien gaben zwischen 75 und 90 % der Patienten in fortgeschrittenen Krankheitsstadien Schmerzen an. Bereits zum Zeitpunkt der Diagnosestellung litten 20–50 % der Patienten unter Schmerzen, und oft sind es die Schmerzen, die als erstes Symptom den Patienten zum Arzt bringen und zur Tumorsuche und -diagnose führen.
