Abstract

The first part of this chapter provides an overview of an open source IEEE 802.15.4-2006 MAC implementation for the TinyOS 2 operating system. It discusses the design challenges, describes the functional decomposition of the implementation and explains what steps were necessary for the implementation to meet TinyOS 2 requirements. In the second part of the chapter a similar overview of the ZigBee Cluster Tree Network Layer implementation in TinyOS 2 is given. Particular emphasis is put on describing how a tree-based network is formed through the available child-parent association mechanisms, and the routing of data packets which exploits the addressing scheme to achieve routing in a single-line-of-code.
