Abstract
The term recurrent melanoma has been used to describe two very different clinical and pathological conditions (Heenan 2002). The fi rst is a melanoma that reappeared from cells left behind after incomplete excision of a primary melanoma. The second is metastasis, either local or distant. Local metastasis can appear close to or even around the scar from a complete excision of a primary melanoma (due to local hemolymphatic spread of melanoma to the surrounding tissue prior to the surgical excision).
