Abstract
One decade ago, a form of melanoma with features mimicking those of deep penetrating nevus was casually mentioned. This remarkable observation was largely ignored, although the subject of melanocytic tumors of unknown malignant potential (MELTUMPs) resembling deep penetrating nevus arose in the discussion of a group of such cases by an expert panel at the International Society of Dermatopathology meeting in Graz in 2008 (Cerroni et al. 2010). Only very recently, Martin Mihm’s group presented on this subject in a paper dedicated to dermal-based melanocytic tumors (Magro et al. 2010).
