Zusammenfassung

Etwa ein Viertel der Bevölkerung klagt über Schlafstörungen und mehr als 10% nehmen ihren Schlaf als „häufig nicht erholsam“ wahr. Insofern zählen Schlafstörungen zu den häufigsten Gesundheitsbeschwerden überhaupt. Eine wichtige Funktion des Schlafes liegt sehr wahrscheinlich in der Verfestigung von Gedächtnisinhalten. Daher führen Schlafstörungen nicht nur zu einer subjektiven Beeinträchtigung, sondern können auch mit verminderten kognitiven Leistungen und Defiziten in der Gedächtnisbildung einhergehen.
