Abstract

Cardiac dyssynchrony refers to an uncoordinated pattern of electrical activation, mechanical contraction, and relaxation of the heart. The substrate for dyssynchrony lies in dysfunction of the specialized electrical conduction tissue of the heart, or impaired conduction of electrical signals through working myocardium, or in delayed mechanical contraction or relaxation of the myocardium. Real-time 3-dimensional echocardiography (RT3DE) has enabled the whole of the left ventricle to be imaged simultaneously and allowed the development of a method to quantify intraventricular mechanical dyssynchrony
