Abstract
Nowadays, buildings on lightweight steel skeletons are widely spread in civil and industrial engineering. A trapezoidal sheet or the roof sandwich panels fastened to thin-wall cold-formed purlins can be used as structure envelopes. Due to loading (dead load, snow load, etc.), the thin-walled purlin is subjected to restrained torsion. This restraint, by Eurocode recommendations, is modeled as a spring with some rotational stiffness C DA. Then, this spring with rotational stiffness is replaced by a spring with axial stiffness K, and purlin is treated as a beam on elastic foundation. This technique allows to determinate all parameters of stress-strain state of purlin.
In Eurocode recommendations, determination of spring stiffness only for the case of trapezoidal sheet fastened to purlin by screws exists. But still the design of purlin with sheeting made by sandwich panels is an open question. In this paper connection of purlins and sheeting by rivets is proposed. Also, the method of stiffness K determination is suggested.
