Abstract

As an introduction to the phenomena influenced by the effects of fluctuations, a brief explanation is given for the fluctuation-dissipation theorem and the Kramers-Kronig relation. As an example where fluctuations play the dominant role, we show how the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility is derived based on the self-consistent renormalization theory of spin fluctuations. There exists, however, a slight difficulty in the theory in deriving the temperature dependence of spontaneous magnetization. Later in this chapter, characteristic features of thermal and zero-point spin fluctuations are described as a function of temperature and the inverse of magnetic susceptibility.
