Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff „Nanoelektronik” ist allein schon in seinen Wortbestandteilen eng mit dem Begriff „Mikroelektronik” verwandt. Eine naive Interpretation kann also lauten, dass Nanoelektronik einfach Mikroelektronik im Nanometerbereich ist (das heißt mit Strukturgrößen kleiner als 100 nm, vgl. Abbildung 1). Aber rechtfertigt schon die fortschreitende Skalierung der Bauelemente, immerhin eines der Hauptcharakteristika der Mikroelektronik, bis in den Größenbereich unter 100 nm bereits einen neuen Begriff? Zur Klärung dieser Frage soll zunächst erörtert werden, was die Mikroelektronik auszeichnet, um analog den Begriff „Nanoelektronikä201D zu motivieren.
