Abstract

This study reviews the cultural characteristics of book cafés and suggests some methods to efficiently use city spaces such as book cafés. Why do publishing companies run book cafés of its own?: To meet with authors and readers as well as to promote their books. In other words, book cafés originally opened as a marketing strategy. But book cafés can be further developed to as a space with various cultural functions. Book cafés can offer more services for citizens and this study suggests that they should evolve to become a place for education and communication, as well as a place of multiple cultures.
