Developing Tools for Parsing ns-2 Results: IEEE802.21 Case Scenario

Mobile Multimedia Communications (MobiMedia 2010)

Abstract

Recent work by the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology produced new add-on modules for the popular network simulator tool, ns-2, that allow users to simulate vertical (heterogeneous) handover scenarios in a network topology consisted by different radio access technologies such as WiMAX, Wi-Fi and UMTS. The developed Media Independent Handover functionality was based on draft 3 of the recent IEEE 802.21 standard. By using this modified version of ns-2, this paper presents two new tools to parse the resulting ns-2 tracing files and provide a graphical view of simulated scenarios and common metrics for evaluating the handover performance.
