Abstract

The proliferation of intensive care units and advances in the treatment of critically ill patients have greatly increased the number of exams performed at the bedside. Conducting daily chest radiography is common practice in intensive care units, and any changes in the patient's condition, or intervention, can lead to a number of studies in a given time. A lot of devices extrathoracic (electrocardiographic leads, pacemakers), intravenous catheter, ventricular assist devices, chest tubes often overlap in the chest, neck and abdomen, which hinder the assessment at a time and location the critically ill patient. Pulmonary and cardiac surgery also involves the use of many of the devices and sophisticated procedures.
