Abstract
Traveling periodic internal wave-trains are generated in liquid layers during the absorption process of a miscible surface-active substance out of the vapor phase. The waves can be observed using the well-known shadowgraph technique. Although there is a concentration gradient within the liquid, the shadowgraph contrast is mainly due to deflection at the free surface.
