Being at the crossroads of several mathematical disciplines, invariant theory has a wide range of applications. Many of these depend on computing generating or at least separating subsets of rings of invariants. This talk gives some examples in which invariant theory is applied to graph theory, computer vision, and coding theory. We also give an overview of the state of the art of algorithmic invariant theory.
