Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the neuromuscular differences between male and female athletes participating in sports and recreational activities. Differences are outlined based on the functional joint stability paradigm and include comparisons for proprioception, postural stability, electromyographic activity, strength, biomechanics, and fatigue. Special emphasis is placed on the authors’ previous and current research as well as the authors’ research examining risk factors for injury in military personnel.
