Abstract

Figure 1 shows a snapshot taken when Professor Glass attended the 10th International Shock Tube Symposium in Kyoto in July 1975. Every July, Kyoto celebrates the Gion Festival, which is one of the traditional festivals in Kyoto. Kyoto is hot and humid in mid-summer and a plague spread in medieval Kyoto in mid-summer. The festival celebrates the conquest of this disease initiated by the Yasaka Shrine. Every July 17 many floats parade through downtown Kyoto.
