Earthquake-Induced Landslides

Abstract

In this paper earthquake-induced landslides hazard due to 1990 Roudbar-Manjil (Mw = 7.3) earthquake in the Rostamabad quadrangle (located in Gilan province of Iran) is assessed. For this purpose, a GIS-based software program for hazard zonation of earthquake-induced landslide is used. The basis of the program is knowledge-based landslide hazard analysis method which analyzes the hazard combining different effective parameters. In this program, landslides are classified in six groups and effect of different parameters on the occurrence of landslides of each group is assessed. The method utilizes digitized data using fuzzy logic to analyze input datasets and provide results. Firstly, in this study, earthquake-induced landslide inventory of the region is prepared by the study of aerial photographs; then input layers necessary for analysis are prepared and the program is applied for the region. The results are compared with the inventory of earthquake-induced landslides for the same quadrangle.
