Abstract

An excursion through the Dolomites usually begins with a climb along a scree: a tiring experience, but one which puts the hiker in immediate contact with an ecosystem which, right in the Dolomites, at 2,000–2,600 m of elevation, finds one of its most complete realizations and the greatest diversity of species and adaptations. Let us try to understand how plant communities which appear simple actually present an astonishing complexity of relationships.
