Abstract

This paper focuses on clock synchronization methods in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). However, the clock synchronization of general information systems is very different from WSNs. After analyzing the clock synchronization process in WSNs, this paper found out the inherent clock characteristics of WSNs. Then considering about the energy-saving request and the limited communication traffic load abilities of WSNs’, this paper designed one separate Clock Synchronization Message Unit (CSMU) to generate clock synchronization frame by the predetermined period. Firstly, CSMU sends clock synchronization frame which has the highest priority in WSNs. When received this frame, every node in WSNs will market the time stamp and repair the local clock. If the nodes who can’t receive the clock synchronization frame directly from CSMU, this method also assists other indirect clock synchronization function based on the fixed period of CSMU sending message, such as time stamp synchronization, and etc.
