    Certains prétendent que Baire est d’origine basque comme l’auteur... Il n’en est rien, mais c’est l’occasion d’un jeu de mots: " Baire est basque...".

    Comme tout ce qui nous concerne est de nature topologique, on ne considérera pas le dual algébrique de \(E\), la notation \(E^*\) ne doit donc pas prêter à confusion.

    L. Alaoglu (1914-1981) est un mathématicien d’origine grecque. Ses travaux de thèse (“Weak topologies of normed linear spaces”, 1938) sont à l’origine du théorème invoqué ici. Quant à Bourbaki, je dois être un des seuls mathématiciens à avoir joué au football contre l’équipe de (et sur le stade de) Bourbaki, à Pau près de l’université. Pour être complet, il faudrait parler de Banach...
