Antenna Location Design for Distributed Antenna Systems Based on Timing Acquisition

Abstract

We address the antenna location problem for distributed antenna systems based on timing acquisition in frequency selective channel. Coarse timing estimation is performed for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system. The probability of worst case is introduced in terms of the probability of correct detection of each distributed receive antenna. A minimax criterion is proposed to provide the optimal antenna locations in a sense that it offers the best system performance that the probability of worst case is minimized. Simulation results illustrate that the distributed receive antennas should be located symmetrically about the linear cell when the mobile station distribution is uniform. The optimal antenna locations also show robustness to carrier frequency offset.
