Abstract
Our Sun is a typical representative of this mass range. Such stars evolve into the classical Red Giants and develop degenerate helium cores. The ignition of helium in such cores constitutes a very energetic event, which will be discussed in detail in this chapter. In the core helium burning phase stars in this mass range form the Horizontal Branch.

BL Her stars belong to the class of type II Cepheids, which used to be called collectively W Virginis stars. Nowadays the latter term is used for even brighter stars in the same instability strip, which cross it during an excursion from the AGB.
