Abstract

We shall limit ourselves here to a very rough summary of the most important features of nuclear reactions in stars. This will suffice completely for the consideration of the main band of stellar structures, while the study of particular aspects of nuclear astrophysics anyway requires the consultation of specialized literature. For example, we will only deal with energy production of equilibrium nuclear burning, i.e. we will neglect the effects occurring when the time-scale of a rapidly changing star becomes comparable to that of an important nuclear reaction. On the other hand, we will also briefly touch on such topics as electron screening or neutrino production, about which a certain minimum of information seems to be indispensible for general discussions.
