Abstract

Evolution created the huge diversity of species we see on earth nowadays, each adapted to their habitats. Of course their evolutionary history also shaped organisms, prompting [Dobzhansky(1973)] to utter his famous: “Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution”. A very general definition of evolution in nature is “change in the gene pool over time”. (Where the ‘gene’ is a hereditary unit that can be passed on unaltered for many generations.1 The gene pool is the set of all genes in a set of several individuals or population.)
