Abstract
The Mexico City population growth demands an increase of water, the vital liquid that is obtained from the internal and external resources of exploitation. The dependency of the water on the groundwater extracted from wells makes it necessary to review the conditions of exploitation. These revisions are made from the depth of groundwater, providing measurement values that can be important for the exploitation of this source and its recovery. The main objective of the study reported in this chapter was to introduce a system that enables storage of information, analysis and visualization of measurements of static and dynamic levels and specific flow, as well as the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) to support a better understanding of the modeled aquifer and improve decision making in the operation of the network of wells in the Valley of Mexico. Multi-temporal analysis of the evolution of groundwater is presented up to 2009 of the aquifer of the Mexico City metropolitan area, for which the measurements of static and dynamic levels of 225 wells were made. Hydraulic balance of groundwater was performed to determine the degree of overexploitation, to check changes in the static levels according to the policy of operation of the entire system of wells of the aquifer.
