Zusammenfassung

Endometriose ist eine gutartige Erkrankung, definiert als das Auftreten von Gebärmutterschleimhaut außerhalb der Gebärmutterhöhle. Da die Erkrankung nur invasiv definitiv diagnostiziert werden kann, ist die genaue Prävalenz unklar; man schätzt, dass 5–10% der Frauen im gebärfähigen Alter eine behandlungsbedürftige Endometriose aufweisen. Die genaue Ursache ist ebenfalls unklar, wahrscheinlich spielt die Verschleppung von uterinem Endometrium eine wichtige Rolle. Das Leitsymptom ist die Dysmenorrhö, die Krankheit ist aber auch mit Sterilität assoziiert.
