Abstract
History: Eight months ago, this patient developed a change in bowel habits with the onset of fecal incontinence. Two months ago, colonoscopy showed a mass at 5 cm in the rectum which on biopsy was an invasive adenocarcinoma, while CT scan showed thickening of the midrectum with invasion of the levator ani muscle. There was also a 7-mm node along the inferior mesenteric vein with no evidence of metastatic disease. One month ago, laparoscopic transverse loop colostomy was done.
