Abstract

History: Patient was admitted to hospital a week earlier due to black, tarry stools; no prior history of melena. EGD showed an ulcerated mass in the distal esophagus extending to the GE junction; biopsy revealed invasive high-grade adenocarcinoma, involving squamous and cardiac-type mucosa.
