Zusammenfassung

Das allgemeine Vorurteil der mangelnden Sicherheit der Natürlichen Familienplanung ist nicht unbegründet: Viele Frauen sind mit „natürlicher Verhütung“ unbeabsichtigt schwanger geworden. Näher nachforschend stellt man fest, dass die Formen und Möglichkeiten „natürlich zu verhüten“ unzählig sind: Coitus interruptus , eine Rechnung „pi mal Daumen“, sich Verlassen auf den Mittelschmerz oder vage und völlig unzureichende Informationen zu einzelnen Methoden aus Zeitschriftenartikeln bzw. von einer Freundin. All das wird unter dem Namen „Natürliche Familienplanung“ verstanden und ist denkbar unsicher. In einer repräsentativen Umfrage von Oddens zur Anwendung von Familienplanungsmethoden wurde unter dem Oberbegriff NFP neben der völlig obsoleten Kalendermethode sogar der Coitus interruptus aufgezählt, die symptothermale Methode dagegen nicht. Kein Wunder, dass nach diesen Umfrageergebnissen eine von drei Frauen „mit NFP“ schwanger wurde [50].
