Abstract

In navigated implantation of an artificial hip replacement, the surgeon receives data for aligning the acetabulum and prosthetic stem and matching the cup and stem position to one another during surgery. Prerequisite to this is reliable registration of bony landmarks in order to judge the anatomic and patientspecific situation. With image-assisted navigation systems, this can be accomplished by means of surface matching on the basis of preoperative computed tomography (CT) data or percutaneous registration under fluoroscopic control.
