Abstract

B-cell lymphomas are tumors arising from B-lymphoid cells at different stages of their development. In this chapter, we discuss the molecular pathogenesis of these tumors, specifically highlighting processes generating functional immunoglobulin genes that are associated with increased risk of genetic errors leading to lymphomagenesis. We review and summarize the enormous progress in understanding the pathologic, molecular, and clinical heterogeneity of these tumors that has been made during the past decades with the aid of high-throughput, platform-based gene expression, and associated functional studies. Finally, we discuss the translational consequences of these studies and review the emerging therapeutic strategies in aggressive lymphomas.
