Abstract

As one of advanced design method, reverse engineering is being widely used in industry. A redesign method integrated reverse modeling with deformation is proposed in this paper. Since their “natural” parameters are hard to be defined and extracted, in redesign with deformation we propose dealing with freeform product models by extracting global and local product definition parameters. Designers can produce new design variations by editing the product definition parameters. Use a car model as sample, and with the mature CAD commercial software of CATIA and Geomagic Qualify as the platform, this paper proposed the method of model reconstruction with extraction of feature, and use the deformation redesign theory and methods for such products to meet the requirement of re-design. The redesign method integrated Reverse Modeling with Deformation is proved to be effective and feasible, and have great significance in engineering practice.
