Abstract

Section 4.1 dealt with the behavior of perforated or slotted plates as sound-transparent facing layers for the camouflage or mechanical protection of acoustic damping material. Here the effective plate thickness teff, respectively the perforation ratio s according to Eq. (4.12) should not exceed, respectively fall short of certain limits in order to hinder sound as little as possible from entering the actual absorber, e.g. a porous layer. On the other hand, concerning conventional and innovative plate resonators Chap. 5 shows how resonance mechanisms can turn layers covered with heavy steel plates into very effective broadband absorbers.
