Abstract
Telecommunication suffers from a plenty of problems both in the transmitter and in the receiver end. To maintain realizable antenna height, to provide the facility of multiplexing and channel separation and to get higher level of noise immunity, a number of modulation schemes are employed both in the case of analog and digital communication. Analog modulation signifies modification of three basic properties of analog single tone carrier signal according to the analog baseband signal to maintain realizable antenna height, to provide the facility of multiplexing and channel separation and to get higher level of noise immunity in telecommunication. In the present chapter we would essentially discuss about amplitude modulation (AM) technique. The basic rule of modulation would be defined to model the method of AM mathematically. To maximize the efficiency of the transmission method, different variations of AM like DSB-SC (Double Side Band- Suppressed Carrier), SSB (Single Side Band) and VSB (Vestigial Side Band) are employed. Along with the design of generic types of modulators and demodulators, design of AM radio receivers is also discussed in evolutionary manner.
