Abstract
Routine surveillance of CSF from patients with EVDs is not recommended due to reports suggesting that routine sampling of CSF does not expedite detection of infection, may increase risk of iatrogenic infection, and leads to antimicrobial therapy of contaminants. It is recommended that CSF samples should only be obtained on clinical indication.
