A Novel Helper Caching Algorithm for H-P2P Video-on-Demand System

Abstract

In the field of Internet, the technology of P2P (peer-to-peer) has greatly enhanced the development of all kinds of video services. Particularly, the technology of P2P based on the mechanism of helpers has further exploited the potentialities of Internet. However, few researches related to utilizing the storage resources of helpers have been conducted. On the basis of P2P, this thesis aims at VoD (video-on-demand) service and proposes a novel algorithm making use of helpers to cache the content of VoD. According to the analysis and experiments, this kind of algorithm effectively reduces the server load and the average view delay of VoD system through utilizing the idle storage resources of helpers.
