Abstract

In this article we propose a heuristic scheme to design VQ initial codebook. Following this scheme we design a concrete algorithm. Our main idea is to construct a weight function as the heuristic function, according to which we divide the training vectors set into many objective subsets dynamically, and finally we generate codes in each objective subset at random. Training this initial codebook by GLA algorithm, we achieve an approximate global optimal one.
