Abstract
The creation of a new, single school of medicine, resulting from the unification of the two existing medical schools, the UCL School of Medicine and the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, formally commencing activity in 1987, will influence the future of the academic life in the Institute, at a time when it is in its 27th year of existence. The Institute, as the only academic organization entirely dedicated to nuclear medicine in the U.K., is looking forward to its contribution to the new School of Medicine. Staffed by a Professor, a Reader, a Senior Lecturer and Lecturer, it represents a small but efficient academic unit, its research activity leads to the publication of some 10-20 publications per annum in refereed journals, with a teaching commitment of the order of 400 hours per annum, and a history of considerable fundraising.
