Abstract

External and internal symmetries are concepts essential for the formulation of fundamental interactions in the framework of (quantum) field theory. External symmetries correspond to the invariance of measured variables under transformations in space and time. Internal symmetries correspond to the invariance of measured variables under transformations of fields, for example, multiplication of the fields by a complex phase.
