Abstract

This chapter introduces the concepts relevant to the special and general theories of relativity. In the theory of special relativity, measured time intervals are, in general, distinct for different observers. In this framework, space and time can be described in the form of a particular four-dimensional space–time. The new expressions for the kinetic energy and the momentum imply that no object can move faster than the speed of light.
